What started out as a donation of $26.50 in 1918 to the Rotary Endowment Fund from the Rotary Club of Kansas City. MO has grown into a fund with more than $1 billion dollars in total contributions. The Rotary Foundation enables us to enhance world understanding, goodwill and peace through health, education, and the alleviation of poverty.  These are some things we may take for granted. We don't see it day to day or if we do it's random.  We  know it exists in various parts of the world but to some it maybe an out of sight, out of mind situation.  But it is in our own back yard and we can no more ignore that than we can areas of the world without clean water, proper sanitation, nourishing food, good education, clean housing, access to proper medical care and the list goes on.

The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation which is supported by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and others who share the vision of a better life for all.  During my club visits, I asked that every member of every club do Every Rotarian Every Year, which is $100 per year, $25 a quarter, $1.92 a week or 28 cents a day.  Not so hard when it's broken down.  Clubs can be creative as to how they achieve this. Maybe a club can match up to a certain dollar amount to get someone started. Put happy bucks money towards this. How about a raffle of donated items - restaurant gift certificates, or services like auto repair, leaf raking or house cleaning (I'd bid on that!).  The more we donate, the more we can do in our local and international communities. There are some who see no benefit to this with various reasons why. We need  to educate them.  If a club has received a District Grant for a local project, that is proof of the TRF in action. Today there are an estimated 41 new cases of Polio in 2 countries compared with 359 cases last year in 3 countries . Numbers don't lie and that is visible proof that our money has been well spent. The journey has been long and hard but what amazing rewards. Thanks to everyone from our district that have gone on Polio Immunization trips.  They helped to make this possible.

During the month of November, I am asking every club in District 6270 to strive towards EREY for the Rotary Foundation.  The more we donate, the more we can do and what a better way to Be a gift to the world.
